  • A Company That Makes Apple's Great Year Look Mediocre [View article]
Stefan, thanks for adding that, although the link is not working for me, here is another http://bit.ly/I9togF. I tried to include some of the results photos in this piece, but they were edited out. The photos are not for the squeamish but they really show the potential of these products.

Thanks, and yes, the Medicare announcement will really be a significant mover, as it sounds like their agreement with the "Global Pharma" largely rests upon it.

Zoot, it looks like you may have gotten some numbers/analysis mixed up, you might want to recheck.

  • The Why Behind The How: The Quality Of Comments On Seeking Alpha Articles [View instapost]
Don't take this the wrong way (it is intended as compliment) but you should get this up as a premium article. I'd much rather read this than the other articles of yours that I have read (not that they were bad). Buy this or that articles are good, but this one, is one of the reasons I joined SA in the first place...to have or create discussions that really make one think.

And regarding the bad comments, I totally agree. Whenever I see a denigrating comment I wonder if the person would actually say it to to the author if they had to look them in the eye.

And actually with MSFT, Gates probably should have passed the baton earlier than he did.

I agree, they really missed the direction of the market going from business to general consumer. But would some have made sure they saw the light if the corporate structure was healthy in the first place?

If the board was properly balanced, the management personnel never would have gotten to be a problem.

It can work in some cases for a while such as MSFT, but it is still usually a time bomb, Gates was smart enough to pass the baton before it became cumbersome for the company. And Buffet probably would have done even better in the long term if he had not maintained that structure for so long, he has actually said that buying a controlling share of Berk Hath was one of his biggest mistakes. I'm not saying that it is a sure indicator that a company will fail tomorrow, as with any analysis you have to look at the big picture, but often it provides space for problems to build over time.

Faux, sorry I just now saw your comment. Thanks. And regarding RIMM, there is probably room, but its hard to say how long it will last (it's pretty risky). The only real positive thing people see for RIMM right now is the possibility for a buyout. So you have to be careful, it only takes one halfway conceivable rumor to send the stock up significantly.

  • Upside Down Tech: RIM Rises 7%, Apple Falls 2% [View article]
No Gusher, I don't need any arithmetic lessons, although it appears that you need to invest in some. As is evidenced by the graph above, AAPL fell 2% from its open on Thursday to its close on Friday. Simple arithmetic indeed.
